DECEMBER DUE DATES

The Week of December 7:

We will begin discussing our major thesis paper on "Knowing Your Fate." This will be the focus of our classes this week. Please listen carefully in class for the due dates pertaining to the thesis paper. All documents can be found on the ning.

Decide on a thesis statement and write it down before you come to class on Friday, Dec. 11.

The Week of December 14:

Thesis Paper Assignment --

Due Thursday, December 17: Typed rough draft of the thesis paper and the works cited page Please make sure you have your paper and works cited page printed out before coming to class. We will be peer evaluating them on this day.

Group Reading Assignment --

Due Wednesday, December 16: All students should have their group novel completed by today. Students should post one discussion question to the ning by midnight tonight.

Thursday, December 17: You should post a response to two of the discussion questions posted from Wednesday. This is to be completed by midnight tonight.

The Week of December 21:

Due Tuesday, December 22: Final thesis paper is due today. Late papers that come in on Wednesday will be penalized a full letter grade. No papers will be received after this date.

The Week of November 30

Mythology Presentions

We will meet in the classroom on Monday. Please have all of the following myths read by Monday, November 30:

The Creation of the Gods and Titans (pages 82-89)
The Ages of Man (pages 90-92)
Demeter and Persephone (pages 93-99)
The Labors and Death of Heracles (pages 100-105)

Presentations will begin on Tuesday. Make sure you give me your comic strip on Monday. This will allow me enough time to make the photocopies. All groups are to be prepared to present on Tuesday.

Wednesday, December 2: Reading Groups

Begin reading your new literature circle books. The first reading due date will be Monday, December 7. By Monday night (12/7), you must go to the ning and click on your book title in the FORUM and provide one thoughtprovoking question to your reading group. By Tuesday night (12/8 by 11:59PM), you must provide a response to one of the questions. http://hatlerenglish.ning.com/

The Week of Sept. 28

We will continue reading Oedipus as a class this week. Our goal is to complete the play by Thursday and use Friday for a review. The end test for Oedipus will be on Monday, Oct. 5. You will be given an Oedipus final project assignment at the end of this week & it needs to be completed by Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Monday, Sept 21: In-class writing on The Alchemist
Tuesday, Sept. 22: We will begin studying the Greek Theater and Sophocles today by viewing a PowerPoint presentation. You will be assigned to respond to the following item in a one page (typed-MLA format) paper: Discuss ways in which destiny can be predicted and whether or not if you buy into it (10 points-HW). This is due Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Wednesday, Sept. 23-25: We will begin reading & discussing Oedipus as a class.
